Bonsai Gardening 101

When Bonsai trees were introduced to us, we only grew them outdoors. But because of climate control, it has been possible to grow them even indoors. Throughout the practice, the traditional concept has since vanished.

It took time for the old timers raising the bonsai outdoors to adapt to this concept. That is why some consideration of growing the bonsai trees inside our houses were slated and you can see them below.

Watering Necessity – Bonsai water requirements vary throughout the year, mainly because they undergo different stages of growth. During the inactive period, the bonsai tree needs only a little amount of water and when they reach the growth period they will then need more and more water. Climate Control – When you grow you bonsai tree inside your house you can easily monitor and control the temperature and humidity. Bonsai are known to be temperamental plants and may need more air. They need proper lightning and water as well. When growing your bonsai trees outdoors, they acquire light directly from the sun and that can be harmful to them. By growing them indoors, you are given the chance to create artificial sunlight and modify natural lighting which is actually better. You can easily water the bonsai trees when needed if they stay indoors as the soil can be properly monitored to make sure you maintain the required moisture.

Lighting – When you buy your bonsai trees make sure you do proper research about them. Different tress and plants have different lighting needs. Usually the plants that flower need more light than the others. Nevertheless, bonsai trees need just enough lighting to grow and survive. Natural lighting is advised, and you must put your bonsai in a position that receives natural sunlight.

Pruning – This is the most enjoyable part of growing bonsai trees. Keeping them in shape and trimming them once in a while is a great experience. Thus, you have to make sure you use sharp shears in doing that. Keep in mind that taking care of bonsai trees means not pruning them too much.

Repotting – Roots of the plant may start to become compacted in the pot, that is why it is suggested to do repotting of your bonsai every once in a while. When the roots get compacted it becomes too thick and the desired moisture of the soil cannot be achieved. The bonsai will not grow in this kind of soil and will eventually die. Remember to relocate the tree to a bigger pot with the proper blend of soil.

You can easily monitor them as they grow and watch their development on a daily basis. In this case, you will be able to immediately correct any trouble.
